Mondlicht: Tsuki No Tsubasa (2009-2012)

It’s hard to guess the exact date as this was dropped by translators a couple of times, however it should have completed 2012.

The story is about a family of Vampires (called Mondlicht in this series – German for Moonlight) who are trying to survive secretly in society. In order to survive though, they kill tourists visiting a “haunted” hotel, passing it off as the supernatural. However, they are suddenly hunted by something called homonculi. They are humans who have been revived and modified, whose soul purpose is to destroy homonculi. All except one, code named F11 (real name Princess Marie) who was previously turned into a Mondlicht, and is suddenly awakened to protect her fellow Mondlicht.

In terms of Yuri content,  Some have very clear Yuri pairings. Most, dont. Most Homonculi are based off of historical figures, such ass Marie Antoinette, and the two legendary pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read.  Only a couple confess their feelings fully. Any kisses between them are limited to side pairings (sex as well, although it attempts to get sexual with the main pairings. It’s the ecchi talking though)

Art however, is quite beautiful. It’s extremely detailed and all the F women are super duper pretty. Their appearances….easily forgettable though, but at least it was pretty to look at.

Overall, this is in fact an action storyline with sprinkles of ecchi/fan service (and nekkidness) in chapters. The storyling is quite fast paced and short for an action manga. Again, the characters and story line, it is fairly forgettable.

Art: 10/10

Yuri: 5/10

Overall: 6/10

as

The yuri in this is iffy.

Like F11, I thought it was very clear cut that she was a lesbian, and that she and the main charachter were totes going to hook up. She was even professed to have been loved by another F bot (Was it Anne?…It was Anne right? See I forget already and I JUST read it). Mary Read and Anne were also clearly in a lesbian relationship. You could tell from the opening scene.

F11....I think...pretty sure...

F11….I think…pretty sure…

AND YET, F11 SEEMED TO HAVE LOVED HER SENSEI.

THE DUDE WHO APPEARED FOR 3 PAGES, ONLY TO DIE. WTF.

WTF.

WTF.

MAKES ME SO ANGRY.

YOU ARE CLEARLY A LESBIAN WITH FEMALE ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS.

AND YET. THIS DUDE WHO HAS BEEN DEAD FOR CENTURIES TOO, SHOWS UP FOR 3 PAGES, HE DIES, AND YOU PROFESS YOUR LOVE FOR HIM??

WHAT THE FUCK

wtfAnd on TOP of that, NO FEELINGS ARE CONFESSED TO HER BESIDES ANNE.

All of the other homonculi die way too quickly for us to even see if theres any chance for any OTHER type of relationship among them, apart from Mary and Anne.

The branch who made these homonculi, and eventually turn on F11, theres so many unsolved questions.

Frankenstein DOESN’T die, F11 does, but no attempt to even find her again is ever made.

So I’m incredibly unhappy with how the story ended. I’m not happy with the amount of Yuri content with the main characters. There were side pairings and heavy ecchi lacing and fan service, so yeah, Yuri points had to be docked.

The story itself, is OK. It was an interesting concept, and it was action based, however it went by too fast. The characters F11 battles simply appear and disappear too quickly for anyone to judge.

Bonus though, the Art is actually really nice and very detailed.  The women are drop dead gorgeous, and I honestly would date any one of them at any given moment :3 So I rated it the “should be real life” scale because I wouldn’t mind that :3

So,

Art: 10/10

Yuri: 5/10

Overall: 6/10

  1. After reading your review I went and checked it out. I really enjoyed the read…until I got to the end.
I agree, the ending could have been so much better, and it sure needed a few more dashes of yuri here and there.
